Angkor Wat

Obviously a trip to Angkor Wat is a must for anyone visiting Cambodia, which was our next port of call.
We got a flight from Vientiane & organised a trip to the temple the next day!

The first temple was the amazing Angkor Wat which is the 8th wonder of the world.
It was built in the 12 th Century.  It took 37 years to build using 1 million people. The  stone was tranpsorted from  50 km away using elephant power to  pull the stone on  rafts up the river.

The buildings are amazing in design and still standing well.

The carvings are done by hand and tell stories about the wars of their times.

The stone is shiny where all the people have touched it over the years!

The next temple we visited was where several films have been filmed including Tomb Raider !

The trees have literally  grown over the  temples walls & its hard to tell who's holding who up!

The roots of  the tree are amazing, they are trying to reconstruct the temple where it has fallen down.

Kate peeping through the tree shows how big it is!

We spotted this eery face looking through at us, incredible how the tree roots frame it!
They believe the tree grew that way on purpose.

Lastly we visited Angkor Thom which is the walled city, it has a few temples still remaining including this one which has 54 towers, each tower has  4 faces on it overlooking the city!

Lastly we awaited sunset over the reservoir!
