Koh Lipe- Thailand

Our first introduction to Thailand, Koh Lipe - not bad hey?

This is the main street called 'Walking Street'  There is only mopeds on the Island and not many of them.
This is sandy path that goes to the 3 beaches on the Island.

Sun going down in Koh Lipe ready for the fire throwers.

Freshly caught fish on the BBQ for tea.

Then for a spa treatment, the fish eat the dry skin off your feet it was soooo ticklish and strange we couldn't stop laughing!

They had their work cut out on Mark!

The beach at Langkawi was really beautiful and had a few nice restaurants on it too.

Not another sunset -how can we bare all this chillaxing and tax free beer!

Penang - Georgetown

Penang is an Island further north from Pangkor.  We stayed here for 3 nights whilst getting our Thailand visa.
We stayed in Georgetown city which is a world heritage sight.
There are lots of temples and beautiful old buildings.

This is a typical Chinese temple.

We went to see the worlds 4th largest reclining Buddha.

We went on the wheel of fortune here and got nothing but bad luck predicted lol!

This is a Burmese Buddha the head was transported all the way from Burma and it's made from solid granite.

Mark Oliver preparing dinner lol!

This is the hawker stall we went too with Jenni  & Dave for some food and too much Chang! (again)
Cheap chairs = Cheap Chang!

Pangkor

After the  Cameron highlands we got a coach then a local bus which was a bit of an adventure then a boat over to Pangkor Island.  We stayed in a small town called Teluk Nipah.  We were a little disappointed by how much building work and rubbish there was on the beach :-(

Mark found himself  a swing!

Near to our hostel there was some hornbills which a local guys fed at night and Kate even managed to feed them some banana too!!

The only way to appreciate a sunset is with a cocktail :-)

Cameron Highlands

From Kuala Lumpur we took a little minbus up to the Cameron highlands up a very steep road which is sometimes shut due to mudslides.  Along the way there were lots of shacks barely gripping onto the side of the hills where alot of Malaysian locals lived.
We were based in Tanah Rata which is where the BOH tea plantation is based.

It was alot cooler too which was much appreciated!
We did an afternoon tour stopping at this garden centre with some funny little characters!

Can you tell the odd one out?

Mark was mixing with the locals lol!

This is the tea plantation where we sampled some tea & scones!

After we visited a butterfly farm where Mark made friends with this beetle.

Kates Birthday 22 again!

Jennie & Dave filled our rooms with balloons!

We went out  for a  nice meal  and then we went on the hunt for a bar that had been recommended.

The bar was pretty smart so the boys couldn't get in with shorts on- much to our amusement!
Miami vice in the house!

Luna Bar was on the 33rd floor with an open top roof and swish pool, You can see the Petronas towers in the background. Well worth the hunt!

The pool looks very inviting and the DJ was playing chill out tunes!

Champagne cocktails anyone?
Can you spot the Del Boy cocktail?
Its hard work all this backpacking!

The world famous Petronas towers.

These are the Batu caves that we went to for Kates birthday.
Its a huge cave with a temple inside.

Only 274 steps to go!

There was wild monkeys on the way up the steps and inside the caves up to mischief.

This monkey started early!! lol!

Melaka

We did what every decent tourist should do in Melaka and hired a trishaw for an hour.  What you can't hear is the awful 80's music blaring out too!!

He took us to see the sights of Melaka- this was just near our hostel.
this is all part of a world heritage sight.

We met up with Jennie & Dave and managed to watch the United/City game in a local Hawker stall.
A great night out all for 30 quid!!
We love Asia already!

Singapore

We started our trip in Singapore with a visit to the Botanical gardens- which were as amazing as you would expect!  This is Swan lake which had lots of Koi Carp in waiting to be fed.

This is a street market in Little India- basically a car boot without the cars!

This one is for you Clive - the worlds biggest vertical marathon - so get training lol ;-)

Chinatown was bustling as it had just been Chinese New Year so there was still lots of celebrations on.
This temple was in the heart of Chinatown.

Singapore came alive at night, as you can see by all the lights.
The best view was from the 'Singapore Flyer' we're sure you will agree.

We did a night cruise  for some fantastic Singapore skyline views.

This was Kates favourite building which we walked all the way too only to be told the viewing platform shut 5 mins before we got there -gutted :-(
It is hotel/casino/shopping mall. It even has a swimming pool on the top which is 150metres long - that's 3 times the length of an Olympic pool!

Litchfield National Park - Darwin

First stop at Litchfield was this impressive waterfall called Florence.
No swimming in this one as Crocs are about!

Lush rainforest walk - beware of snakes under foot and  fox bats above.

A view over the  national park.

Time for a dip ;-)

Marks trying to hold the water back-unsuccessfully lol!

Larry the lizard had just been swimming too - which means no swimming for Kate x
