This is our mode of transport from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng, its a 12 seater people carrier with everyones backpacks on top.
Its well suited for the terrain that's mountainous and twisting for the 6 hours it takes.
We're not broken down just one hot engine and we all need a break.
The heart strings get pulled when this little girl approaches me begging for the cookies I was eating :-(
Obviously very poor but its hard to know what to do for the best.
As people finish their snacks she checks for leftovers in the bin, its very sad to see but Laos is a very poor country.
At this time of year the farmers use a slash & burn method to create space for the new crops as wet season arrives. The smoke constantly fills the air leaving a magical smelly haze around.
As we approached this hill we turned the corner to realise this fire has got out of hand, we waited for a while as flames lept out from the hedge and then the driver decided it was now or never.
The villagers moved away looking pretty worried.
These ladies have their machetes and would have help to clear space ready for the burning.
From afar you can see how big an area they burn at one time and how big the fire is getting - not good at the end of dry season!
This is typical of the villages we drive through. All the houses are made in this way and built on the edge of the hill. The kids play around on what is a fairly major road obliviously having fun!
The scenery is stunning, Laos is a beautiful and so relaxed with lovely happy people who always have a smile for you.
We arrived at Vang Vieng for a flying visit, its main tourist attraction is tubing.
We sit for a drink over the river but decides its not for us and head off the next day.
