Off for a day trip kayaking down the Nam Ou River & then the Mekong River.
We stopped on route to pile the kayaks on the car roof at one of the guides houses!
Picking up lunch from 3 different places on the way which was all an adventure before we started!!
We head north so we can kayak downstream!
We came across these elephants bathing and after a closer inspection we realize they are logging elephants with chains around them :-( Hard work.
The rivers are the lifelines of the villages which are often unreachable by road.
The river is used for washing pots, clothes & themselves, a great way to see village life!
The one in the back is supposed to copy the one in fronts lead - anyone think this is gonna cause problems ?? So this is married life lol!!
The overhanging cliff show how high the water rises in the wet season, up to 12 metres is normal.
After stopping for lunch we sat with our guide for an hour whilst the others went off riding the elephants which was interesting as we learnt alot about Laos life. He is showing us the tool they used to train the elephants with & talking about traditional Laos culture. He was very funny and spoke excellent English!
The elephants went down for their afternoon bath which we got to join in with.
Their mahouts were only age 13-15 so just big kids.
The river was deep so it really was bath time for everyone.
The kids(mahouts) somersaulted off the back off them and we got to sit on them too !!
Lots of fun for all :-)
The Monks doing his weekly wash.
Last stop Whiskey village- get a close up of the bottles - didn't taste too good either but you had to give it a go, rice wine too - yummy!
All in all another great day in beautiful Luang Prabang!
